How to take screenshots in Google Chrome

You might have taken lots of screenshots in your computer or your might have taken screenshots in Mozilla firefox. I recently needed a full page screenshot of a page and also wanted to crop it to get the desired height and width. I had a extension for taking fullpage or selected page screenshot in mozilla firefox but they didn’t offer cropping feature.
After searching a while I found out that Google Chrome has an awesome extension which not only helps in taking screenshots it also helps in cropping and adding some stuff to it. If you are webmaster then you will obviously like it. Even if you are not a webmaster sometimes you do need to show screeenshots of a website for a project or something else.

How to speed up applications with RAM drive ?

If you are having a large enough RAM drive in your system then it has got an extra advantage for you. These RAM drives can be utilized to get the most out of an application that reads and writes a lot. A kernel mode driver is used with the memory to create a RAM drive that will work a lot faster than the normal storage space. The commonly used hard drives in all the computers can at the most read and write at the rate of 100 MB/sec. The speed of a RAM drive depends on the memory and chipset of a system and that is why on high end systems it may be faster.

I am going to show you that exactly how you can create a RAM drive and run your applications faster. I assume that you are having a large enough RAM that is about 4 GB or more. I will be using a free utility called “Dataram RAMDisk”.

1.Download and install RAMDisk from the above given link and open the containing folder.

2.Now in the folder click and open the file that is named RAMDisk Configuration Utility.

3.Now click on the settings tab and enter the disk size and partition type according to your needs.

Click on Start the RAM drive and it is ready to be used.

The only disadvantage of a RAM drive that bothers the most is that it cannot store any data. If you switch off the power the data is gone but this utility provides you an option to save the data even when the power is switched off and also to restore it whenever the need arises.

To use this feature follow the given below steps:

1.Click on the Open and Save tab in RAMDisk Configuration Utility.Now to save the data check on the “Load Disk Image at Startup” and “Save Disk Image on Shutdown” to enable the save and restore feature.

Now you can try and run any type of heavy application and experience them running faster.

How to Password Protect your Files and folders

Password protection of private file is as important as creation of the file itself. Previously we wrote about how to hide your hide drives from others,but in that situation you had to use command prompt to hide the hard drive . Hiding files in that fashion is a bit tough for a non-tech user, but we have found a solution to that problem using a freeware SafeHouse Explorer, which does the job quite efficiently.

Follow the following steps to password protect your files and folders :

1. Download SafeHouse Explorer.

2. Install SafeHouse Explorer to your hard-drive.

3. After the installation is complete, click the “New Volume” button to create a private folder.

4. You can make many volumes to create folders of your chosen size preference.

5. You can see the Safehouse drive after going to “My Computers”.

After these steps, it’s just the play of mouse. Few drags and drops of your folders and files into this virtual drive and they get instantly password protected.

Accessing the protected files is also easy, simply navigate to the folder that houses your protected files and double-click the corresponding volume file. Once you type the correct password, you will see all the files and folders under the virtual drive in Windows Explorer.

These volumes (the .sksk file) can easily be copied to USB flash drive or external hard disks, which makes their vulnerability very low. Even if you lose the external hard disk, no one can open the files without knowing the password.

Ah…another use, e-mail attachments. Always use these folders (the .sksk file) as attachments and communicate the password to the recipient in other means and this will ensure even e-mail privacy.

How to join split .001 .002 files

Many times when you download large file from internet you recieve them in the .001 .002 .003 format,something like moviename.avi.001 moviename.avi.002 moviename.avi.003 . In case of video files you can play them using VLC . But in other cases where you might have downloaded a software or ebook . Its better option to go for joining those files.

Well, .001, .002,.003 files are basically split versions of the original file,as there is limitation on size to be uploaded on file hosts people often split the files using some kind of spliter and then again join them while downloading.

To join the .001, .002,.003 files, you can download a freeware called HjSplit , which is one of the best option to join these types of files . I have used it personally lots of time so thought of sharing this with you.

How to Insert Live Web Pages in Powerpoint Slide

There are many instances, when we want to include a webpage in our Powerpoint slide. We know screenshot is an option but doesn’t give you the updated website. Linking to a webpage is old school.

LiveWeb, a free PowerPoint add-in adds web pages to a Powerpoint slide and updates it in real-time during a slide show. Another good thing about LiveWeb is that it supports all PowerPoint versions starting from PowerPoint 97 to the latest 2010.

Let me guide you through the process

1. Go to LiveWeb Site and download the Zip file

2. If you have PowerPoint 2003, installation of the LiveWeb add-in is from the Tools – Add-ins menu

For PowerPoint 2007, you have to follow the path: Office Button – PowerPoint Options – Add-Ins – Manage (PowerPoint Add-ins) and click on Goto bring up the box that installs add-ins

3. A security warning pops up. Enable macros to allow the installation to go through

4. Now, you are ready to add webpages

5. Go to Insert menu Ribbon>web page (LiveWeb group)

6. After that the process is self-explanatory.

Now, your Powerpoint slide resembles a web browser without toolbar controls. Edit Page Property button on the LiveWeb menu can be used to change the properties.

Go download LiveWeb and use Live Webpages in your Powerpoint Slides.
